Novo mesto

Novo mesto is a city in the southeastern Slovenia. City was founded as Rudolfswert (Rudolfovo) on 7 April 1365, named after its founder, the Habsburg Archduke Rudolf IV of Austria, though there have been settlements in the area since pre-history.

Nova Gorica

Nova Gorica is a town in western Slovenia, on the border with Italy. Nova Gorica is a new town, built after 1948 when the Paris Peace Treaty established a new border between Yugoslavia and Italy, leaving nearby Gorizia outside the borders of Yugoslavia, thus decapitating the Soča and Vipava Valleys and the north-western Kras Plateau from their traditional regional centre. Nova Gorica is the principal urban centre of the traditional region of Goriška in the Slovenian Littoral.

Moravske Toplice

Moravske Toplice is a town and a municipality in Slovenia, part of the Prekmurje region. It is best known as a spa town.

The municipality is an important center of Lutheranism in Slovenia. Large Lutheran churches are found both in the settlement, as in other surrounding villages. The majority of the population is Roman Catholic, but the Lutheran minority makes up more than 40% of the population.

Laško

Laško is a spa town in eastern Slovenia. The town is located at the foothills of the Hum hill on the Savinja River. It is first mentioned in written documents dating to 1227 and was granted town privileges in 1927. It is known to have been settled since the Iron Age and Roman archaeological finds are common in the area, though the precise location of the Roman settlement is not known.

Kranj

Kranj is the fourth largest city in Slovenia. It is located approximately 20 km north-west of Ljubljana. The centre of the Upper Carniola region (northwestern Slovenia) is a mainly industrial city with significant electronics and rubber industries.

The nucleus of the city is a well-preserved medieval old town, built at the confluence of the Kokra and the Sava rivers.

Kobarid

Kobarid (Italian Caporetto, German: Karfreit) is a town and a municipality in the upper Soča valley, western Slovenia, near the Italian border.

Kobarid is known for the famous Battle of Kobarid, where the Italian retreat was documented by Ernest Hemingway in his novel A Farewell to Arms. The battle is well documented in the museum in the centre of Kobarid. The museum won a Council of Europe award in 1993. The adjacent Tonocov Grad archaeological site has remains of 5th century Roman buildings.

Dolenjske Toplice

Dolenjske Toplice is a settlement and municipality near Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia. The town lies on the Sušica River, which joins the Krka 2 km north of town. It is a spa town known for its thermal baths established in 1658 by the Counts of Auersperg.

The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Anne and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto. It is a Gothic building that was restyled in the Baroque in the late 17th century.

Celje

Celje is a typical Central European town and the third largest town in Slovenia. The town of Celje is located under Upper Celje Castle (407 m) at the confluence of the Savinja, Ložnica, and Voglajna rivers in the lower Savinja Valley.

Brežice

Brežice is a city and municipality in eastern Slovenia in the Lower Sava Valley. The Lower Sava Valley Museum (Slovene: Posavski muzej Brežice), housed in Brežice Castle, contains archaeological and ethnological exhibits, exhibits on the Croatian and Slovenian peasant revolt, and a modern history collection. It is one of the largest regional museums in the country.

A more recent landmark addition to the town is its water tower, as well as the double arches of the 527 m long iron bridge, which spans the Sava and Krka rivers.

Begunje na Gorenjskem

Begunje is a village in the Gorenjska region of Slovenia. The 12th century Kamen castle lies just outside the village and the 15th century Katzenstein mansion, rebuilt in the late 17th century, at the centre of the village. The Katzenstein mansion was used by the gestapo as a prison in World War II and a museum dedicated to hostages, victimes of the gestapo, is arranged in part of the building. The mansion house also houses a psychiatric hospital, which accepts patients mainly from the Upper Carniola region.
